Top Active Equities

Summary

Top Active Equities ranks equities using the activity measure selected for the market view. Depending on the widget or filter, activity may be represented by traded value, volume, number of trades, or another displayed measure.

The list is intended to show which equities are receiving the most trading activity during the selected period.

Why it matters

Active equities often attract greater market attention and may provide more frequent price discovery than less actively traded securities. The ranking can help investors locate equities with notable participation before reviewing their price performance or fundamentals.

It can also provide context for the charts displayed in the related active-equity view.

How to Calculate it

Treaded Value= Σ (Trade Price*Trade Volume)

How to read it

First check the activity measure named in the view. An equity ranked highly by volume may not rank as highly by traded value, and an equity with many small trades may differ from one affected by a single large transaction.

Review the selected date or period, market filters, price change, and activity figure together. High activity can accompany either rising or falling prices.

Things to keep in mind

High activity is not automatically positive or negative and does not indicate that an equity is fairly valued or suitable for investment. Activity can increase because of announcements, market volatility, index changes, large negotiated trades, or short-term trading interest.

The ranking only reflects eligible activity captured for the selected view and may change quickly as new trades are recorded.
